Nell Fortner is a former American basketball player and coach. She was born on November 22, 1959 in Jackson, Mississippi. Fortner played college basketball at the University of Texas at Austin and was a part of the 1980 USA National Team that won the gold medal at the FIBA World Championship.
After her playing career, Fortner transitioned into coaching and had stints as the head coach of the Purdue Boilermakers, the USA National Team, and the Auburn Tigers. She also served as an assistant coach for the WNBA's Indiana Fever. Fortner is known for her success in coaching, having led her teams to numerous championships and accolades.
In addition to her coaching career, Fortner has worked as a basketball analyst for ESPN and the NCAA. She is also a motivational speaker and has been involved in various projects aimed at empowering women in sports.
